Forbes published a list of The World's Most Expensive Drugs. It's a very interesting article that I recommend to read. After reading the first part, I thought that $350k for a drug is too much; I would rather let nature do its job for "free". But the part about "orphan diseases" made me think that it's worth it. Especially since insurance pays for it and it's free for uninsured, provided that you live in US and have Cadillac insurance.
Update: The Most Expensive Medicines are Worth Every Penny. Also, a very much appreciated comment posted by Billiondollarwoman, made me search for health insurance caps where I dug up other interesting stories, such as Health insurance caps leave patients stranded.
I couldn't find images of these drugs readily available online, so I made a list below that shows top 3 most expensive drugs:
| Soliris | $400k/year | ||
| Elaprase | $375k/year | ||
| Naglazyme | $365k/year |
There is also this NIH video that I recommend: The Science of Small Clinical Trials Lecture Series.
